On September 1, 2016, the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) will begin administering the Targeted Small Business (TSB) Certification program on behalf of the Department of Inspection and Appeals (DIA).

• 2016 Moving Iowa Forward Conference
The 2016 Moving Iowa Forward Conference Tuesday will be September 20, 2016 at the Des Moines Marriott. The event is hosted by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Department of Transportation. The conference

• Iowa Tourism an $8 Billion Business, Again
Business Record, August 31, 2016
Iowa tourism accounted for $8 billion in spending in 2015, the second year in a row, according to the U.S. Travel Association. State tax receipts from travel were up 25 percent at $466.7 million last year. The industry supported
67,400 jobs, or 4.2 percent of total state nonfarm employment. "Lower gas prices in 2015 helped draw in more travelers who significantly increased their spending on lodging, restaurants, shopping and entertainment," said Shawna
Lode, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office.

• Honor Outstanding STEM Leaders
The nomination period is now open for the Des Moines Area Community College Women of Innovation Awards, presented by the Technology Association of Iowa (TAI). The awards recognize and celebrate women in business,
government or academia who are leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Students at both the secondary (grades 7-12) and collegiate levels will also be recognized and are eligible for a $2,500
scholarship in two award categories.

Small-business growth and entrepreneurs will be the focus of a regional partnership announced Wednesday in Waterloo. The University of Northern Iowa's Business and Community Services will work with economic development
groups, chambers of commerce and Main Street organizations in a six-county area through the Cedar Valley Regional Entrepreneurship Project. The effort is funded through a U.S. Economic Development Administration
grant.
