BBB Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Awards to Business and Consumer Leaders

Four companies and one individual have received the 2012 BBB International Torch Awards, presented by the Council of Better Business Bureaus to recognize those that have exemplified BBB's mission to advance trust in the marketplace. "For 100 years, BBB have been setting standards to make trust a fundamental component of the American and Canadian marketplace," said Carrie A. Hurt, President and CEO of the CBBB. "These International Torch Award winners embody that vision on a daily basis, and we are proud to honor them."

Hi all...we have a full schedule with many exciting programs and events to report on. Last month we had a terrific BBB Benefits 101 seminar at the Mason City Public Library, a beautiful facility, attended by 20 representatives of area Accredited Businesses. The feedback we received was very positive and it was clear that those in attendance learned a lot about the BBB and how to maximize their benefits of Accreditation. We are on schedule to continue with a flurry of activity and hope that you will join us as we have multiple opportunities to participate.

Long Running Scam Is Back And Making It's Way To Your Computer

One of the nation's longest-running scams is taking on new forms. Known as Nigerian Letter Scams, these "fund transfer" frauds reach intended victims by fax, letter or e-mail. The sender, who claims to be a government official or member of a royal family, requests assistance in transferring millions of dollars of excess money out of Nigeria, frequently alleged to be an inheritance, a humanitarian relief effort or a windfall from a business venture, and promises to pay the person for his or her help.

BBB Tips: Mobile Banking Can Be Dangerous If Used Improperly

The Better Business Bureau warns consumers that the dangers of mobile banking can outweigh the convenience and ease if proper usage is not employed.

The Federal Reserve estimates that within the next year, one-third of cell phone users will utilize mobile banking. Safeguarding personal account information will be more important than ever.

April seems a long way off but we are actively making our call for nominations NOW for the BBB Integrity Awards ceremonies next spring. We won't have a red carpet but we will have an inspiring event and a beautiful crystal award for our winners. Please give some thought to nominating a company that you think is deserving of this special honor.
