Thank You to Three Members Who Rotated Off PDI Board

At the 2017 PDI Annual Meeting on September 28, President Mark Reinig recognized three board members who are leaving the Board.

BRIAN CROWE
Brian Crowe joined the PDI Board in 2014 and provided leadership in the areas of legislative committee and as chair of this year’s conference including sponsorship recruitment. He has been a member since 2014. Brian has a very well-rounded background in economic development, having worked for the Iowa Economic Development Authority prior to his current position in Cedar Rapids. He’s a thought leader and has developed many connections in the industry. PDI is grateful for his service and very much appreciate of the support from Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance for allowing us to have Brian involved on the board. Thankfully in his new role as Director of Business Attraction at Creative Corridor Development Corp in Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, PDI will continue to see Brian involved.

WAYNE PANTINI
Wayne Pantini, CEcD is leaving PDI after seven years on the Board. Wayne rose to Nominating Committee’s attention through his great work and leadership in the legislative arena. PDI was always in great hands with Wayne at the helm. While quiet and reserved, he is known around the state as an informed and knowledgeable economic developer. Wayne provided a wealth of knowledge in the legislative arena and was a sound advisor on all matters related to the strategic direction of the association. Wayne kept a clear and conservative eye on association finances and represented PDI as a true professional in the field. Wayne and his organization, the Union County Development Association, are leaders in southwest Iowa supporting economic development in the county and region. He has given countless hours to PDI and will be terribly missed at the board table.

TERRY BAILEY
Terry Bailey, CEcD, EDFP, FM, Iowa Western Community College, Council Bluffs, Iowa was unable to be attendance at the annual meeting. He was attending the IEDC annual conference in Toronto, to accept his Honorary Life Membership. Terry is a strong believer in education, earning the CEcD, EDFP, FM certifications. During his membership – starting in 2003, he has served on almost every PDI Committee – legislative, education, spring & fall conference and the board for the past three years. He is a regular attendee at PDI events, and a committed professional the economic development industry. Terry is one of the longest, consistent members in good standing in PDI. His willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done were always appreciated.

PDI expresses our sincere gratitude and praise for all three of professionals who served as PDI board members.

James Hoelscher, Shannon Landeaur, Drew Kamp

By B.A. Morelli, The Gazette, September 25, 2017

Raygun is expanding its Cedar Rapids store less than 18 months after opening. The retailer that’s made a name for itself well beyond Iowa’s borders for satirical T-shirts poking fun at Iowa, politics and other topics, opened its fourth location — the Cedar Rapids store — in April 2016. Business has been good, but the impetus for expansion is to test out a new idea, said owner Mike Draper.
