BBB Wise Giving Alliance Offers Contribution Cautions for Donors
As the public's attention and hearts are focused on the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan, the BBB Wise Giving Alliance advises donors to take steps to avoid being taken by questionable solicitors or wasting their money on poorly managed relief efforts. The typhoon that hit the Philippines over the weekend, described as the most powerful in the world this year, has destroyed an entire town. More than 10,000 are feared dead.

It is shaping up to be a busy end to a busy year here at the BBB. We have lots of positive change and look forward to continuing with that momentum in 2014!
Last month we had two great document shredding events and thank our staff, sponsors and volunteers for all of their efforts. We are proud to participate in offering this great opportunity to the communities of Cedar Rapids and Muscatine. Also, plans have now been firmed up for December 9th when we will sponsor another BBB l0l luncheon program in Indianola for Warren and surrounding Counties. BBB Tips: Don't be Shocked by Fake Electric Bill Collectors
The BBB has received numerous calls from consumers who say scammers pretending to be with utility companies are threatening to shut off their power if they don't pay up. Con artists reportedly claimed the customer's bill was past due and told them to wire a payment or give their credit card information over the phone in order to keep their service.

The Better Business Bureau proudly announces that it is now accepting nominations for the 2014 Integrity Awards. Each year the BBB honors businesses that are selected to receive this prestigious award because of their dedication to excellence in the marketplace.
